One Minute Weekend: Adventures & Brews
Roses are red. Violets are blue. Poems are hard…BEER. You won’t find many poets in Rocky Mount. But you will find a whole lot of people who know about beer. This Tar River town is an incubator for new craft breweries. In fact, it hosts the largest craft beer incubator in the state. So come thirsty and in between sips, play a little disc golf, go bowling, or try your hand at giant connect four. Read on to get your two-day tour packed with barley, hops and a little adventure.
One Minute Weekend: Family Day Out
It may come as a shock to your kids, but there is life beyond social media. This tour is your chance to put aside screen time and increase your family time. Hop a ride on a century-old carousel. Grab a milkshake that is one part unicorn, one part sweet tooth overdose. Then call it a night in a tiny house hotel that will have you dreaming big about tomorrow. It’s all designed to get you some real life likes.
Wonder Pick: Barley & Burger
This small, crowded restaurant is a local favorite. It combines the nostalgia of great movies with some new and unexpected burger combinations. Try the Godfather (fried mozzarella, marinara, pepperoni and fresh basil) or the Marty McFly (american cheese, chili, slaw and mustard) with a side of gourmet tater tots. Then, faster than you can reach 77 miles per hour in your modified Delorean, your food will arrive.
Wonder Pick: Michael's Showside Grill
The more you weigh, the harder you are to kidnap. EAT DESSERT. That’s the feeling here at Michael’s Showside Grill. Take their advice. Though it’s a full service grill, you’ll be tempted to skip the meal and go straight to dessert. Chocolate mousse pie, oreo cheesecake, blackberry cobbler. . . drooling yet? Before entering a sugar coma, load up on their fresh seafood or burger of the day. Think hard about coming back Friday and Saturday nights. You can say it’s for the live music, though we all know it’s for the coconut creme pie.
Downtown Rocky Mount
Minutes from the traffic and hectic pace of Raleigh and Greenville, you'll find downtown Rocky Mount. This little town is filled with award-winning barbecues, moon rocks, craft beer that you have never tasted, and tiny houses that are large enough for big dreams. Hop in your car and come for a visit. Great stories start here.
Country Doctor Museum
Long before waiting rooms and insurance forms and co-pays, the country Doctor was the highest form of medical care. He would travel by buggy to your farm to fix what ails you. Broken bones, aches and pains, random rashes ---they were all diagnosed and treated in the comfort of your home. What did all of this cost? There were no surprise emergency room bills with zeros to infinity. Most transactions were settled with a bushel of apples, a few pounds of ham and a little cash. Whatever was available. The job of a country doctor was to care for the people first and worry about payment later. Imagine that.
Shopping
If you wish retail therapy was covered by health insurance, this is your tour. Nash County offers shopping lovers a chance to find that thing that you don’t necessarily know you want or need until you see it. Galleries. One-of-a-kind craft stores and boutiques. Nash County is chock full of unique shopping spots for bargain hunters with an eye for excellence.
Tipsy Tomato
The Tipsy Tomato is the perfect example of the food you want, precisely where you want it.
