Local authorities in Rocky Mount have confirmed multiple sightings of a Sasquatch in the area. Not the too-hairy-too-tall-big-footed kind of Sasquatch. But the me-likey-beer kind of Sasquatch.

You see, a few years back, a craft beer incubator opened in Nash County. It's located in Rocky Mount Mills. The mysterious Sasquatch in question is the mascot for Mythic Brewing, one of five companies that share the newly-refurbished, 6,000-square-foot shipping warehouse and beer garden.

Mythic was started by cousins Chazz Oesch and Matt Nichols. When Matt graduated from Virginia Tech with a finance degree, his friends gathered in a local bar to celebrate his accomplishment. As the night progressed, a family member known simply as Sasquatch became quite inebriated.

But launching a brand inspired by a drunken Sasquatch has been no small feat. (Take a moment to appreciate that Bigfoot related transition). The Rocky Mount Mills Brewery Incubator gives entrepreneurs three years to brew, learn and prove their concepts while at the same time helping them develop a business plan, recruit investment and eventually grow beyond the incubator space.

To that end, Mythic Brewing has its own 10 bbl brew system with fermenters to produce up to 1,000 barrels per year and a keg cooler to serve beer out of eight taps. All incubator tenants have access to a keg washer, a 5-head canning line, dry and cold storage and a public beer garden to sell and serve their product.

The process has produced such regional favorites as: The Abominable Joe Man, a french vanilla mocha stout. Wampahoofus, a smoked, maple bacon, Imperial porter. And Squatch and the Giant Peach, a peach cobbler wheat dessert beer.

But there's much more brewing left to be done. Unlike the real Sasquatch, the boys want their brand to be easy to find. Over the last couple years, they've gotten their company off the ground and are expanding distribution throughout the Triangle and eastward toward the coast of North Carolina.

So don't be surprised if you hear reports of a Sasquatch hanging around Raleigh or sunning on the beaches of Corolla with his buddy Elvis. If these entrepreneurial cousins have it their way, soon you won't have to look for Sasquatch. Sasquatch will find you.
